The Shed offers friendship and an outlet for all your hidden creative talent. It enables you to give something back to the Lane Cove local community, as well as learn new skills. If this interests you, then Lane Cove Community Men’s Shed is the place for you!

Here you can enjoy sunny camaraderie, pursue hobbies, pastimes and interests and undertake projects for other community charities and organisations.

New to power tools or limited skills? Other experienced members will show you step by step how to operate them safely. Whether you are an expert timber craftsman or a complete novice you will be welcome.

To be offered membership, a level of commitment is required. Members are expected to attend on a regular basis and contribute to community projects – not just make things for themselves.

Shed members are predominantly retired males from varied backgrounds who have a range of interests.

We understand that the Shed is not for every person. Likewise, not every person is for the Shed. The information provided in this section aims to help you to decide whether you should join the Shed.

Three primary tenets
The Shed’s members have the interest and the time to commit to the Shed’s primary tenets:

– Commitment means commitment to the Shed, its values and the values of the Australian Men’s Shed Association. Commitment also means regular attendance at the Shed and participation in the Shed’s events, such as but not limited to assisting at Shed stalls.

– Contribution means putting the benefits of others – the local community, the Shed, members of the Shed – before the benefits to oneself.

– Consideration means treating members of the local community and one another with respect and courtesy. Consideration also includes respect for other members’ work and belongings.

Membership numbers are managed by the Shed Committee at a level considered to be optimally safe under work health and safety guidelines.

Consideration of new applicants will be based upon the working space available to members at the time.

There is no charge to come along and see what we do and just have chat with the guys. If you would like to join us working on a community project, or work on your own project using our tools and facilities, we need you to become a member so that you are covered by our insurance.

Those wishing to apply follow the Membership Approval Process document. After initial introductionsand a willingness to abide by our Code of Conduct, your details are taken and the membership process is initiated.

The Membership Fees are set by the Committee and ratified by the membership.

This fee covers personal injury insurance and contributes to Shed expenses.

We take safety in the Shed very seriously. No-one is permitted to use tools they have not been instructed on and been signed off on. Explicit training is provided on all hand, power and machine tools prior to novices operating then independently. At least two members must be in the workshop if tools
are being used.

If someone should sustain an injury, there is a First Aid cabinet in the kitchen and a defibrillator is also available.
